An immersive hands-on experience at the Veronda-Falletti Ranch where middle-schoolers, through the lens of ecological balance, will gain positive agricultural and farm management skills to inspire our next generation of farmers. Participants will have the opportunity to explore how the skills they learn can set them up for future career success.

Key activities include:

Each trip begins with an introduction tour to the Ranch. Each month’s activities will coincide with the seasonal activities at the Ranch, as follows:

August - The Science of Composting and Seed Starting - Plant and bring home their own seed starts

September - Connecting with the Process of Growing Food - Harvesting Corn and making popcorn over the firepit with a lesson in all the steps from seed to harvest

October - Making Dia de los Muertos garlands from marigolds grown and harvested at the Ranch to be sold at our celebration on Saturday. Participants may also make a small bouquet to bring home.

November - Farm-to-Table Personal Sized Pumpkin Pie Making

December - Weaving Together Community - Lesson in weaving with materials from the ranch that each participant can bring home

What’s needed at the program (types of shoes, water, food, etc.): Wear closed toed shoes and dress for outdoor weather. Sunscreen or a sun hat is recommended. Bring a water bottle and snack, if desired.

Accommodation and Inclusion: We are happy to work with those who have special needs to ensure equal access to our recreation programs. If there is need for an accommodation, please contact the Recreation Department fifteen business days prior to the start of the program to the start of the program to discuss if an accommodation can be made.

Cancellations: The City will issue a refund, less a 10% administration fee, up to 10 calendar days before the start of the program. Between 4-9 calendar days to the start of the program, the City will refund 50% of the registration fee. The City will not issue a refund with less than 4 calendar days to the start of the program. Refunds may take up to 4 weeks to process. Contract classes may have a different cancellation policy set by instructor, contact Rec Department for more info.
